Protecting your rights in the workplace

| Oct 27, 2016 | Employee Rights |

When dealing with an employee’s rights in the workplace, an employee may feel like the underdog in a David versus Goliath battle. Often, with fewer financial resources at his or her disposal, collecting evidence and strengthening one’s side may seem like an uphill fight. But the fact is that all employees have very specific rights, and these rights are protected on both federal, state and local levels, including organizations such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA, the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act or ERISA, a federal law protected under the United States Department of Labor.

Such laws and acts are in place to assure that employees are working in an environment free of harassment and discrimination and that precautions have been put in place to assure workers’ safety. In addition, for workers who recognize illegal behavior by their employer, there are whistleblower protections in place to protect a worker from retaliation by his or her employer if the illegal activities are reported to authorities.

The firm of Mitchell Pollack & Associates have been serving the New York Tri state area for over 25 years, protecting employees’ rights and finding solutions to problems that face employees. Our firm handles all aspects of employee law, including but not limited to wrongful termination, sexual harassment, illegal employment discrimination, such as age, gender, race, sexual orientation and religious discrimination, wage and hour disputes, whistleblower claim, and contract disputes including non-disclosure agreements, severance agreements and restrictive covenants.

If you believe that your employee rights have been violated, it is important to act quickly and swiftly to protect your rights and interests. You may want to speak with a firm familiar with employee rights to assure that your rights are protected. Depending upon your situation, you may be entitled to additional compensation for damages and losses incurred.
